Bryn's Epic Fic Recs - Spander (BtVS)

Sun, 12 May 2019 09:15:14 GMT

One upon a time I was a hardcore Spander shipper. Shocking, I know. :P But now in my ripe old age I'm getting nostalgic for the fics I used to devour as a wee youngling fangirl, and I decided to start collecting some of my favorites into a proper, organized rec list. Others posts will be for other fandoms, but Spander was such a huge OTP for me that it gets its own post. This post will be updated as I comb through my bookmarks and reread fics, but please feel free to comment with recs or let me know if any of the links get broken.

== List last updated 05/12/2019 ==

In no particular order:

Fic: Back With Me by Alexandria Brown
Pairing: Spike/Xander.
Bryn's Summary: This is a fic that flutterwolf and I go back to reread time and time again. It has an OFC and it's an eternal WIP, but I still highly recommend it. Spike falls for Xander, but he's afraid that he can't protect him with the chip in his head. He reaches out to an old friend who is scary!powerful. Some Anya!bashing.
What sticks in my memory (spoilers!): Kat walking into the Magic Box and Willow!babbling at everyone before Spike walks in and kisses her. The explanation for Spike's eyebrow scar. Xander's love of art.
Link: http://web.archive.org/web/20111229043536/http://www.abfic.com/backwithme.html

Fic: Changes by tabaqui (scarecrow_horses)
Pairing: Spike/Xander, Oz/OMC.
Bryn's Summary: Another big fic that flutterwolf and I reread every couple years. After Oxnard, Xander is gifted powers that allow him to see people's souls/auras. He also still has the spirits of the Hyena and the Soldier in his head. He bonds with Spike, and Oz bonds with OMC, and the four form a pack. Some Willow!bashing.
What sticks in my memory (spoilers!): Xander leaving out bread and salt for Jack. Toth's stick separating Hyena!Xander from Human!Xander. The moment Xander looks at Dawn for the first time with his powers turned on. Xander looking at Buffy's soul.
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/series/344951
Original website: http://scarecrowhorses.com/fanfiction.html

Fic: It's Just a Jump to the Left by Kimberly A
Pairing: Spike/Xander.
Bryn's Summary (spoilers!): Xander gets stuck in a time loop - in every loop, Spike and Xander are killed by demons as they leave the cemetery. Between every loop is a scene where Xander is helpless inside his own body as he watches himself and Spike have sex. Dubcon, as Xander is locked inside his body and unable to consent to the sex loops. Why is he looping, why the heck are they having sex, and how is he going to break the loop and stop dying every time? The sequel has some mild Dom/sub action if that's your jam. Xander likes it when Spike bosses him around. Boys have trouble talking about their feelings.
What sticks in my memory (spoilers!): Ugh, I love this fic so much. Time loops are so much fun, and this one handles it so well. The first time Xander loops through the sex loop, he goes into a heterosexual freakout, but as the loops go on, he gets more comfortable with the sex. As he sees Spike die time after time, the sex loops serve as a welcome comfort that they're both still alive. I love how Xander picks up more and more details as he loops and grows to know Spike better. "Convergence was imminent." - that line still runs through my head whenever an event I've been anticipating is approaching, both reading fic and in RL. The sequel has a hothothot scene at a sex club where Xander is willingly cut and bleeds for Spike. Unfortunately a little while later assumptions are made and feelings get hurt, and it takes Xander getting hurt on a patrol and Spike nursing him back to health for them to work on repairing the damage.

Sequel: Late Night Double Feature by Kimberly A
Sequel Link: http://spanderfiles.com/arvs/kimberly/lndf.html

Fic: Repossession by Lazuli
Pairing: Spike/Xander.
Bryn's Summary: Long fic, huge hurt/comfort. Xander moved out of Sunnydale years ago and is now quite successful at a construction company, when he hears a noise in an alley on the way home. He finds Spike, tortured, raped, and horribly emaciated, with no memory and unable to speak. Xander slowly nurses him back to health. Meanwhile, there's something odd about Xander's boss, and anyone who goes looking for more information ended up forgetting what they were doing. Lots of original characters forming Xander's found family. There is a LOT (A LOT!!!) of hurt/comfort in this fic - as Spike gets better, Xander gets worse, and as Xander gets better, Spike gets worse again - the pair can't seem to catch a break until the end. Graphic torture descriptions. Riley!bashing (to put it mildly). Lots of crying throughout the ride, but there is a happy ending.
What sticks in my memory (spoilers!): Spike's mind split between Demon!Spike and Poet!William. Splinters. Spike stealing Xander's earring because it was inside Xander. "I want to be in you. Why now? Look at you. Look at you and dare ask me again." - I had that picture from the gallery printed out and taped to my bedroom ceiling for years.

I feel like I'm a door-knocker for fandom...

Wed, 22 Aug 2018 13:36:24 GMT

Hiya.

My name's Bryn. I am rarely on DW these days, but I still poke around sometimes.

If you are checking me out because I sent you a message about confabcon, then hi! *waves* Sorry if I bothered you. I'm not a bot, I'm just trying to get the word out.

If I sent you a message and you already know me from LJ or Wincon, then I'm sorry! I have a horrible memory, and I'm hopeless at remembering names. Friend me and I'll probably friend you back.

I guess that's it for now. :)

CONfabulation 2018

Tue, 21 Aug 2018 01:23:22 GMT

With confabcon almost two months away, it’s time to go get your tickets if you haven’t already! If you’re just now hearing about CONfabulation, welcome! Hopefully this will answer a few of your questions! (our full FAQ can be found here).

What is CONfabulation?

In the simplest of terms, CONfabulation is a long-weekend where people from fandom come together to talk about the things they love best.

To elaborate, CONfabulation is a fan convention run by the same people who brought you Wincon for 10 great years. Wincon started out as Winchestercon in 2006, a Supernatural (the television show) fan con. The final Wincon was held in Pittsburgh in 2016 and had evolved into a multi-fandom convention that altered its location every year.

CONfabulation is a celebration of fandom with panels and structured events. We are the internet in all its glory, come to life. We are a place to get together with old friends, discover new ones, and talk about everything that makes us squee.

Does CONfabulation host any actors, celebrities, or other special guests?

No official personnel from any fandom is affiliated with this convention, nor will there be any appearances by any show actors, celebrities, writers, or other personnel. It’s all about us, the fans, and the way we express ourselves and our love for fandom.

Where/When is CONfabulation this year?

CONfabulation will take place from October 25-28, 2018 in Chicago, IL.

If you have any other questions, get more info at confabcon or email us at info@confabcon.com!

Favorite "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" quote?
* Hello salty goodness!
* Not sure I have one. But Xander's speech to Dawn about being human is definitely one of my favorite moments.
* Too many to name! But I do have a particular fondness for Buffy's philosophy, "Seize the moment! Because tomorrow you might be dead."
* The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.
* Angelus: No weapons... no friends... no hope. Take all that away and what's left? Buffy: Me.
* "Blood is life, lack-brain. Why do you think we eat it? It's what keeps you going. Makes you warm. Makes you hard. Makes you other than dead."
* Undo it! Undo it!
* Think of something cool, tell them I said it.
* 147 days yesterday.. 148 today.
* It must be Tuesday
* The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
* "I used to be a highly respected watcher, and now I'm a wounded dwarf with the mystical strength of a doily."--Giles
* Out. For. A. Walk....Bitch
* Too many! But I love "I'm not having sex with Spike! But I'm starting to think you might be."
* "You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other until it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood -- blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it"
* "Love isn’t brains, children, it’s blood. Blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love’s bitch, but at least I’m man enough to admit it."
* The Whistler quote from Becoming, Part 2... "Bottom line is, even if you see them coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So, what are we, helpless? Puppets? Nah. The big moments are gonna come, you can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are."
* "Hello, Cutie" (really too many to pick just one)
* Oh, poor Watcher. Did your life pass before your eyes? Cuppa tea, cuppa tea, almost got shagged, cuppa tea.
* I could have anything. Anyone. Even you, Spike. I could ride you at a gallop until your legs buckled and your eyes rolled up. I've got muscles you've never even dreamed of. I could squeeze you until you popped like warm champagne and you'd beg me to hurt you just a little bit more. - s04e16 - Who Are You?
* "If the apocalypse comes, beep me."

Plushie Workshop Patterns

Tue, 30 May 2017 03:27:22 GMT

Here's PDFs of the Plushie Workshop pages I made and have used at every workshop since 2011. Feel free to use them, and contact me if you need any help! I'd also LOVE to see your finished designs!!! I'm working on ones for building the basic body, and making heads. If there are any other instructions you'd like to see, please let me know and I'll see what I can do!

* Basic Stitches (circa 2011) - I have an newer version of this that I need to scan and update.
* Outline
* Shirts
* Pants
* Vests
* Jackets
(Links last tested and working 5/29/2017 - please let me know if they break!)

To make a basic head and body, use the solid inner line of the "outline" pattern, backstitch everything except the neckline, turn the head/body inside-out, stuff with your choice of cotton or poly-fill, and whip-stitch the neckline closed.

Drop a comment here if you have any questions about the patterns!
Like my work? Buy me a coffee!

Hello friends from CONfabulation!

Tue, 30 May 2017 03:07:00 GMT

Holy shit, I haven't updated this account since 2009! Dang!

However, I need to post some stuff following up CONfabulation. Livejournal is out since the TOS debacle, and Tumblr is horrible for finding posts and adding commentary. So, dreamwidth it is!

Stay tuned for more updates!

So, um... yeah.

Mon, 25 May 2009 15:04:54 GMT

I kinda fell head-first into the YH love again. Not that I have stopped loving YH over the past decade, because I haven't, but I recently got all the eps in good quality, and I'm SUPERMEGAHOMG excited to play with them, and make icons and gifs and redo my music videos.

For anyone who cares about Young Hercules, I'm working on a YH Wiki, and I also started a new community on LJ: youngherc, so check it out!

Also, I recently found out how to make animated gifs with more than, like, five layers, and so I've been making these:

and also some icons:

.

I'll be posting more to the aforementioned LJ community youngherc when I get a "batch" done.

So, uh, hi ^_^ I'm Spikess from LJ.

Still trying to decide if I'm going to use this journal mostly for personal entries, posting fic, both, or neither. *shrugs* Any votes?
